Sometimes, I think we forget how ICONIC this film was and still is for the gay community. Yeah, they based the documentary around the ballroom culture and vogue has now become a powerful force within the community. Everything from the slang to the shade has since been copied and duplicated. Let’s be honest about the shit there has been a lot of appropriation when it comes to the gay community from outsiders.
Although many people feel the need to copy, steal, and try to revamp a lot of things within the ballroom community, they can never silence the truth.
These were the pioneers and because of them we have a hit series like Pose on FX. If it wasn’t for this documentary ballroom wouldn’t be where ballroom is today. This documentary will forever be a piece of HISTORY for the LGBTQ+ community and nobody can tell me anything different!!!
While Pose is breaking down barriers for television, we have to remember where it all started.
So I wanted to share the documentary for those of you who haven’t seen it yet which is hard to believe many of you in our community haven’t seen this documentary. In case if you haven’t this film is worthy of your time! I wish we could have a reboot of the documentary with the new icons and legends within the ballroom scene.
